Hi Folks,

this is my first post here, and it is not really about RFs, but the meanwhile famous Fujis Xs.

Looking for an alternative to my Leica M8 (which I somehow like, but still feels odd compared to analog Ms) I tried the Fuji X100s for 2 days, and now the X-Pro1 at a store for half an hour.

First, I was thirlled at how smooth and transparent the X100s felt, handled and shot. Everything was responsive, snappy, fluid and precise. The buttons and dials feel great, and the shutter of the M8 feels broken in comparison to this gem.
As I naturally use cameras, I always decouple the AF from the shutter - which every professional or even advanced camera I ever had can do. But to my big surprise this is not possible on the X100s. Though one can use the MF-mode and focus with the AEL button, the focus routine in this mode is different to AF-mode, and much worse and unreliable in low light. I really had to scratch my head.

Fortunately I shot the X100s on a sunny day (one of the few now), so I found another thing that put me off: when working stopped down, say f4, the camera makes some aperture-opening-closing that induces a delay when depressing the shutter fully. The only solution is to half-press the shutter in advance, which is the real deal-breaker for me. So I returned the camera.

Regarding the X-Pro1 I am not quite sure how this camera behaves, since it is hard to tell from half-hour store trial. I think it sometimes did "dance" the aperture when set to 4, but I am not 100% sure.

Can anyone give an overview of how the aperture on all the X-cameras running the latest firmware as of today behave when stopped down in bright sunlight? People who shoot prefocussed in MF-mode should know...

Thanks a lot!
Andreas
