I've casually been looking for an enlarger that can handle 4x5 for over a year. Every few weeks craigslist and ebay are checked and nearby, newish dichro 45s with entire turnkey kit have sold a few hours ago for $50. Of course, there are many currently available setups in Vancouver - local pickup, only. (I have pondered road trips in the old jeep to Tuscon, Yellow Knife, and Baton Rouge to collect one of these nice setups simply to end this.

Tuesday, I had an early flight to catch and left the house in the dark at 5am to find a very nice Beseler 45 in the headlights, just off the lane we share with a neighbor. Wuhz that...? I kept driving, having to make the flight and forgot about it, away on business.

Yesterday, returning from errands I remembered that vision and stopped by the neighbor, who was about to throw it out. It's an old, grey 45MCR, but it is in excellent shape and it will help by leagues my single-handed quest to keep Kodak going.

PS- I last printed using different grades of paper and want to try VC paper. This beast has 2 filter trays. I assume the one in the head (6.5"x6.5" - cut from sheet?) is for color filters and the other, just above the lens (3"x3" - easy to find) is for the VC/MC filters?

PPS- It came with a Componar 50mm (she had already thrown the other lenses out!). So, I'm looking for good 50mm, 80mm and 150mm lenses from the big 3. I could also use a 6x6 neg carrier.

You can use VC filters in either location. Filters above the negative can be polyester while those below the negative need to be higher optical quality.

Nice find.
