I work in a large hospital and have a project in mind. I would like to photograph the hospital staff in action. This may not be possible because federal privacy laws that protect the patient’s identity and health information. I would like to photograph the staff at work in the various clinics and other places including the OR. I know I can take the photographs without including any visible patient identity information (careful framing). All photographs would be reviewed by the hospital for compliance with the federal laws. I would give full use of the images to the hospital. Has anyone ever done a project like this? Any suggestions on how to approach the hospital for permission?

sounds very interesting. Go right to the top of the foodchain to ask for permission.
Offer them usage of the photos for their PR or research department. There will probably be some areas youre not allowed to photograph Im sure.

Could be an interesting project. You might want to start with your PR/media person. If they are even the least interested, ask that person for suggestions of what they might like along with what you see that you want to take. Perhaps even invite them along on one of your shoots. Be sure to emphasize the hospital will on the photos and the release rights if that is what you intend.

Good luck.
