ohhhhhh

I'm thinking of selling me Contax lens set: 21mm, 35mm, 50/1.5 and 85/2. They are all beautiful lenses, but, I shoot them far too infrequently.

Should I or shouldn't I?

I money would offset a bunch of recent Leica purchases.

How bad do you need the money? If you don't need the money, just get an Amedeo contax adapter and use them on your Leicas. If you need the money, get rid of them.

What flavor of Contax do you have- the classic Contax RF or Contax G? If the classic Contax RF, the rear lens elements of the 21mm and 35mm lenses are too big to fit the standard Amedeo adapter, although they could be used in scale-focus mode with a different non-focusing Amedeo adapter.

My lenses are the ones for the Contax IIa.

I have the Amadeo adapter - it would go too.

And I have a rack of Nikon RF lenses, all in the same focal lengths, and the Nikkor Amadeo adapter.

I'm tended to be more attached to the Nikon RF lenses, but,.... if I'm thinking this way with the Contax lenses, maybe the Nikon RF lenses would not be far behind.

The sad part is that some of my favourite Nikon RF lenses don't fit the Amadeo adapter for Leica - e.g. 3.5/1.8 and the 5.0/1.1.

Good to hear from you Jon. I've only seriously thought of selling them a few times.

I sold the Contax IIa body, so that lowered the barrier to selling fairly significantly. Actually, the last time I used the body, the film spool drove me nuts.

My rack of Leica lenses is getting pretty large, and I am just wondering whether I'd really be missing anything, if I sold the Contax lenses.

You will miss them. I have three post-war West German Zeiss 50/1.5's alone. Different from the Nikkors, less harsh out of focus areas.

I traded for a Contax IIa to give one of the Sonnars a body.

Check what gear you have used over the last 6 - 12 months. If you preferences drifted, than just go a head and sell the stuff. Should there be some hard to acquire pieces that think twice about it, but otherwise I would not hesitate.

I do miss the Rolleiflex T which I sold when I decided to buy Mamiya 6. It was a very nice camera and very different than the Mamiya 6. But I do not have enough time to make so many cameras justice. So I found a nice home for the Rolleiflex. Should my needs change in the future and I would find that the Mamiya 6 does not get enough use or does not fit what I need I would (indeed after a long consideration) sell it and get the gear I need or want. Right now the question mark started to appear around my 4x5 gear because of time constrains.

Hehe
I've thought the same many times. Recently I sold the Opton f2/50mm and f4/135mm with a spare Contax rf- Leica M adapter. The rest may go soon. Too much kit is just that... too much. It all went down hill when my iiia shutter started to malfunction. If not for that I would still shoot this set :(

If selling them will merely "offset" purchases already made, KEEP THEM! I always regret selling stuff like this..
