I'm about to order Planar 50mm or Biogon 35mm, hasn't decided which yet but I need a hood. Any third-party hoods that fits these lenses?

Just the Heavystar screw-in metal ones. Available from ebay seller Heavystar. Aside from those, there aren't any other new ones I know of but others may have sources.

Heavystar's store on ebay seems to be closed down for a few weeks. Any other ones?

If you get one of the ZM lenses that takes a 46mm size, I have a hood i'm not using, nor plan on using. You're welcome to it for a couple dollars and shipping.

The Voigtlander LH-6 hood also fits these Zeiss lenses. A little bit less expensive, but not much.

Don't forget the B&W folding rubber hoods. I use these on 50 Summlux and 35 Biogon C lenses. They fold up when not in use and provide a nice absorbing bumper when your lens hits something. Neither intrudes on the negative and only minimally on the viewfinder. They come in a variety of sizes and B&H Photo usually has them in stock. Elegant? Not really, but very practical.

Thanks for all the suggestions
I might get the Zeiss hood anyway, just think it's expensive for a hood.

Oh it is expensive. Almost criminally so. The prices that all these companies charge for hoods is disgusting. Even Nikon and Canon rape us on hoods, and they charge 1/3 what Zeiss does.

Here's a guy who designed a lens hood which is compatible to 35mm ZM and Voigtländer lenses on crop sensors as well as the 50mm ZM Planar.

It seems quite interesting - he's doing it with a 3d printer and offering it for 40$ with shipping in the USA.

Bo Lorentzen is a photography 'good guy'. I use one of his hoods with a C-Biogon 35mm [on M8] and really like it. The hood shields and protects the lens superbly, and with minimal viewfinder intrusion; it's a pity that so many lens hoods are very poorly designed in comparison.

I ended up ordering the Zeiss hood along with Planar 50mm/2 from Ffordes. Hopefully I will get it soon.
