I'm going to be in Japan for a week in late October. I'll be in Tokyo a few days, Hikone a few days (on Lake Biwa, not Hakone) and probably in Kyoto for a few days.

What's your favorite area for street photography in Tokyo?

When I'm in Kyoto, I hope to do a day-long travel photography workshop with three of the students from my college who are studying in Hikone. I'm looking for suggestions of special places or things to concentrate on for that day.

I don't think we can really go wrong in Kyoto, however. I'm wondering about the second day, when I hope to go to someplace a bit outside Kyoto, perhaps see a bit of the nature. Any suggestions for that? I was thinking about Ohara.

Anyone ever stay at a temple or shrine?

I would recommend Nara, nice town with a huge park with a lot of temples and sime nice scenery.

Or if you do not mind travelling a bit more, go to Hiroshima and Miyajima..

Ginza, Shibuya, Shinjuku are all good places within Tokyo to shoot. If you enjoy something more scenic, any of the temples/gardens/parks are nice. I particularly like Ueno Park.

Fun fact: The first fish that they used for sushi (or so they say) came from Lake Biwa.
