I've driven a Toyota truck since 1992, but sold it last week. I now drive a Mini. Living in town does offer some perks.

1999 Volkswagen Passat. Also have a '72 Super Beetle for fun.

Our "workhorse" has been a 2002 Subaru Forester; just yesterday we bought a VW Jetta Sportwagen to replace it. This will be my wife's car. Didn't plan on having all Volkswagens but we've had good luck with them.
 
smart ForTwo gets me around, and is easy to park...

Ford Falcon Utility (Aussie Ute)

Runs a factory LPG five litre six cylinder engine and costs about the same to run per kilometre as a Toyota Prius.

Not going to lie Keith, but I kind of want to move to Australia just for the Fords and Holdens you guys have. We brought over the Holden Commodore with a big V8 and called it the Pontiac G8 (the only GM car made in the last, oh, 40 years I'd ever be caught dead in). Too bad GM killed it like they do everything else good, like the rusty but otherwise OK S10 pickup.

I'd also move to Australia so I can practice my favorite line from the Road Warrior "Three days agah, I saw a rig big enough to aughl that tankah. You wanna get out of here? Talk to me..." :)

My current ride are my feet. I'm carless right now, but my last car was a Mercury Mistake (Mystique, as Ford called it... it's really a late '90s V6 Ford Contour [Mondeo in Europe] with an unfortunate name). With some good struts, that thing cornered better than most other cars I've driven.
 
For the last 15 years, I drove a Chevrolet Caprice Classic. The perfect car for carrying a photographer anywhere, this huge car was indestructible. I drive it over mountains on dirt roads in New Mexico, hit deer in Indiana, drove it offroad....it took incredible abuse. By this summer, it had 210,000 miles and the body was beat to hell. The fuel injectors were going bad and cost $100 each for the parts (I'd have installed hem myself). The old car wasn't worth that much, so I sold it to a guy who wanted to jack it up for 30 inch wheels to turn it into a pimpmobile! (yes, he told me this!).

Replaced it with a Ford Crown Victoria. They don't make Caprices anymore, and the Crown Vic is the next best thing. I drove it to New Mexico in August, and these big cars are the BEST for long trips. Small cars suck, they ride rough and the seats are uncomfortable. I expect the Crown Vic to be my photomobile for the next decade or so.
 
Had a mini, kept needing repairs, got a 2011 VW GTI 4-door. Room for tons of stuff, plenty of go, most confortable car I've ever sat in, drives solidly and quietly.

Suzuki Jimny/Sierra. Lightweight, ladder frame chassis, solid axels front and rear, low range 4wd, punchy 1300cc motor. Heaps of character.
I love escaping the city at least once a month and doing short trips into the Australian countryside in this little 4x4, and it's pretty formidable off road. Meanwhile when I get back into the city, it's near the perfect car to zip around and park with, and uses only around 7l/100km or 34mpg - best compromise for my lifestyle I've found yet. Also, it's the 2007 model, which was the year before ABS became a standard feature, so I've always been really happy with that! (I'm not a fan of ABS on my cars)

They do seem to make very sensible cars for the conditions here. I've thought about getting something smaller, maybe a small station wagon, but I'm pretty attached to my ute I admit.

It gets me to some great shooting locations in the valleys behind Brisbane and I figure the least I can do is include it in the shots where I can. :D

I really liked the crown vic when I visited NY in 2006. A good solid/no bull**** sedan.
 
Here's mine: Nissan Patrol '92, 4.2 litre turbocharged diesel, with big tanks and lots of goodies that let me travel to interesting places. That's the tent on top of the car.

You're right ... I was thinking of another Ford I had with the 300 cube six in it.

These things are only 250 cube from memory. I had an AU previously which was ugly but still pretty good and eventually traded it on this. This model came with the twenty four valve head and although it's a bit down on power compared to the petrol version it's plenty rapid enough for me!

Without a doubt it's the smoothest straight six I've ever owned!

2000 Nissan Xterra. Sold it for $2000 at 9 years old with 234,000 miles.

Now I drive a 2002 Volvo V70 2wd with 125,000 miles, I want to go twenty years with it. It is better in the snow than the 4x4 SUV.

But the best was my trusty Ford F100 302 V6 2wd bought new in 1979 and driven until 1993, 285,000 miles. I lived in it off and on for a couple of years.

In between I drove a bunch of rusty Volvo 240s, a fun Jetta that crapped at 60K, some horrible Fords and GMs, and for a year, an AeroStar ;-/
