I picked up a Canon A1 with FD 50mm f/1.4 S.S.C. lens for $20 because film is no longer available according to the seller..

Other than a bit of brassing of the black paint finish the camera is in fine condition..

$20... Good number. I also paid $20 for a camera at a flea market last weekend. A very good condition Minolta SRT101 with a 50mm 1.8 lens. Too bad I can't get film for it!!!

Good find...hope you enjoy it.

Who knows, maybe it's difficult to find film where that seller lives. I know that in the small town I lived in for a while, the only film available in town (at the local grocery store) was mostly out-of-date by several years.

Good deal on that A-I. I know of one in a small antique store for $50, but it would need a CLA since it has the Canon "squeal" so common on these. I hope yours is working fine, and that you can get some good images out of that fine piece of f1.4 Canon glass.

My war story is not as good but still not bad. About 10 years ago I was in Budapest and at my fathers suggestion (he originally came from there) I went to the large flea market in one of the nearby suburbs. There in a store containing all sorts of stuff, I found a Dual Range Summicron in what appeared to be near mint condition for an asking price of around $450 Australian - maybe at the time $350US. As these were selling at the time for around $1000 Australian (No eBay back then) it did not take me long after checking it out to decide to buy it. Long story short it was a fine lens and to top it all a year or so later I found the eyes in a store in my home town for $35 Aust. Still a pretty good deal I say.
