Top 10 reasons RFF rocks ....

My gosh.. that IS a good reason! Here's to hoping "Ray" doesn't come visit us!

RFF rocks because it keeps me from accumulating too much money from frequent GAS attacks. What good is money if it's not being spent on photo gear??

Honestly though, this community has helped me find a kind of gear that fits well with my style. I've almost instantly become more productive and have felt more gratified from shooting and the photos that come from it. Any stimulus to shoot more is always welcome. Thank you all for that!

I remember how around 8 years ago I decided to commit suicide in the MUD I was hooked to (A MUD was just a text mode online RPG conversational game), I just decided to let it go (much to my studies benefit!) so asked one of the gods to froze me and turn my body into a statue in one of the zones I liked most.

Maybe we could just inaugurate something like that here, hey I want to be kept frozen at the Canon Forum, no, the Leica M3, no wait, Nikon SP, argh !

Jokes aside, what brought me here and what brings me here is over all the other things, the people.

Even though I admit I also enjoy sitting and pontificate, living vicariously through this stupid electronic window. 😉 [I'm going to frame this one for future uses, it uses such a rich lexic].

Thanks to all of you who make this place so special.

Ha Ha...remind me not to join that forum! I think one flew over the cuckoo's nest there!

As for reason 2......

I suppose being part of this big happy rangefinder addicted family 😉 means that we feel no guilt or remorse over our unquenchable GAS!

It's easier to rationalise when everyone here spends nearly every spare penny on gear! Plus there are certain monetary benefits and surely it's cheaper to be addicted to rangefinder's than say heroin? (unless of course you buy brand new leica glass !!! 🙂

We could to a watch for that particular forum and come up with a number of peculiar threads that make this one look... booooring! 😉

Sorry, couldn't resist... 🙂

Thanks for posting, Tom! 😀

There are no shouting matches; when it gets to that, it tones down quickly. I thiink it's a great mix of Joe, Jorge, and international mix. Not shaken nor stirred. Just well mixed.

I think that's also why I've seen many exiles seek refuge here recently; the good the bad and the ugly.

reason 3...i get to learn. I like learning, and I especially like learner directed learning in non-heirarchical settings, which is what this forum is for me.

It's like one giant 'gifted' class in here. Although, I sometimes do feel like Bart when he cheated on his intelligence test (Simpsons reference...)

I think this is a great forum because I'm here! 😀 (That's a JOKE, people so be nice!) 😉

In truth, this is a great forum because ALL of you are here and we get experiences, opinions and thoughts from around the whole world. If only the world got along as nicely as we do here.

🙂 Reason Nr. 4: This is a peaceful gathering of friendly indviduals with a common interest. It is an outlet enjoyed by many. What else can I say? 🙂

Because there are a large number of enthusiasts/nuts like me here who...understand! (And when I say "enthusiasts/nuts," I mean that in the best way.)

I've seen some people get bent out of shape about a few things, but basically everyone stays at the right level and is supportive of each other. I might add, supportive of each other's GAS also, which would make my spouse rather concerned.

Because I was just microwaving a burrito for dinner while watching HGTV and reading RFF and monitoring an eBoy auction and the burrito got too hot and melted all over the plate and I'm really hungry and the wife is out knitting and now that it cooled I'll just lick the plate. And my RFF friends understand completely. Right, guys? Guys?

Hello?

Reason #Whatever-Number-We're-Up-To-Now 😀

The local group get togethers.

It reminds me a LOT of.. yes.. *gasp* the Pentax Discussion Mailing List - it's community - people with similar interests; whether it's just for the sake of drooling over (not literally) each other's gear or just so we can go and have a beer or coffee together or just to walk around and shoot a bit. It's something that we enjoy together as a group.

Photography, at least to me, can be such a solitary exercise. Healthy, I think, in a lot of ways but we also need a social aspect as well. And that's where RFF and such get togethers come into play. Sure there are rough spots; life is not a bed of roses - but, in the end, we're all in this thing together and as such, if we're all going to be at the party we may as well have a good time 😀

Cheers
Dave
