Top 10 things that need to be addressed on RFF new software

Aside from the single sign on for the forum and gallery which is being worked on, we would like to get a list of top 10 issues encountered so they can be prioritized and addressed

As the issues get reported, they will be evaluated and kept on this thread and status updates provided.

Posts that are not of considered an issue but rather a preference will be deleted from this thread. For example,

A post like

I searched the site for foobar and i get no results.

Knowing that foobar exists that would be a top priority and a valid issue.

A post like

I liked the blue letter from before and now they are pink

That would be deleted and not even considered an issue.

Again, we are looking for real problems that can be fixed. Not personal preferences.

So please start listing bugs in this thread.
 
1. User Settings for Notifications seems to have no effect. For example, I have every notification turned off in User Settings, and I still get a red flag popping up every time anyone posts anything in any of the 74 threads I subscribed to, even though that box is unchecked.
2. The Ignore List doesn’t work.
 
Why, oh why is every reply to a thread showing up again on the Home page Recent Topics list instead of just the latest one? I thought you got rid of that.

I think this would be an example of a preference, not a bug. I prefer to see the posts listed using Latest Activity.
But, in a possibly related bug, the mod's forum editing tool is only visible above the first post at upper right in Posts mode, not visible using Latest Activity.
 
Not sure if this is a bug or if I'm not getting how the new sites work.
But, apparently I am not a member of the Gallery? Or do I need to create a new login?
Just scrolled through the members list pages and where my user name should, presumably, be, it is not.
Do I still have a gallery here? OR is it just that I can't see it unless I am logged In?
I thought I could share a screen clip of what the page I'm looking at looks like but that seems to not work either.

Clicking on 'Latest Activity' in a thread on the 'Home' page doesn't actually put you to the latest activity. And when you click on the 'posts' tab it takes you to the very first page of the thread. In order to then go to the last page with the latest activity, you either have to type in the last page number at the top of the page or you have to scroll down to the bottom of that first page and then click on the last page of that thread. If clicking on 'posts' will still take you to that first page, then maybe taking that ability to click on the last page number that's at the bottom of that first page and moving it /adding it to the top of that first page might make things a bit easier.

Another curious thing that I've noticed is that my 'signature' only appears on my phone when not signed in -- it's not visible on my desktop when signed in. Not sure what others are seeing.
 
Tagging doesn't work. Tried to tag Vince Lupo regarding his last post but doing so clears out all the previously entered text. I'll do a quick movie that illustrates the behavior. EDIT: figured out how it works...when entering the tag, when the name pops up, don't click on it, just hit return. However tagging seems iffy, it doesn't always pull up the member name; sometimes it pulls up a range of names from which to choose (use the arrow keys to select the desired name.) Sometimes it does absolutely nothing at all...

Vince's post is correct, that's the navigation behavior with Posts/Latest Activity I've been seeing.

I cannot see a signature in your post, either, on my browser or my phone when logged in, but it's visible when I'm logged out. Bizarre.

certainly not a top 10, but I'll list these here anyway: missing smilies. Better yet: install support for unicode emojis. Also: code to support video embeds.

I have a funny feeling to deal with typical Samsung like customer service. Where you have to repeat over and over the same thing several times. Just because none of them write notes and or reads them.

Here is one which I'm not sure been reported.
The Search.
All forum search engines are useless.
Try to search "Pictures with Jupiter 3". By forum search. It returns pile of irrelevance.
Then type in google search
"pictures with jupiter-3 www.rangefinderforum.com"
It works since it is google search algorithm, the only search algorithm which actually works on the web.
It finds exactly what I always could only find by google search and only. Not by shitty search function in forums engines.
But now after browser opens it:

"Invalid Page URL. If this is an error and the page should exist, please contact the system administrator and tell them how you got this message"

The way I joined RFF was via this google search returns. Every question I asked about film or film rangefinders, lenses, including Leica was giving me threads on RFF. I read them and it was the motivation to join RFF.
 
That's pretty typical for all forum software. Search pretty much sucks.

However there are plugins/add-ons that will substitute Google search instead. I would assume there is one available for vbulletin.
 
REALLY NOT LIKING whatever change was made yesterday. Now when I go to RangefinderForum.com, I get a list which includes thread topics, then separately the thread topic replies. What the heck? Why are they being separated out? Now the home page is just a confusing mess of threads, instead of each thread including the topic and the replies. Can't understand why the current set up would be better than what we had two days ago.

I would assume that's an inadvertent change. The admin part of forum software can be pretty arcane and moving to a new version (especially when there is such a big gap of time from the original software version) can be a steep learning curve.

I was getting used to the site but now there has been additional changes last day or so and am getting a bit confused again. Understand people's frustration and again, appreciate the efforts to improve the navigability//usability.

I see my Signature on the laptop, and everyone else's including yours, Vince. WIN10/Firefox. I don't however have RFF on my phone so can't report on that.

Yeah, it's been one step forward, two or more steps back during this transition. Here is a hint to whomever is making the changes: Follow the command chain all the way back to the beginning before instituting any change so you don't break again what had previously been fixed, or break something new that had been working fine.

Cannot send messages. pop up continues to prevent with an error message regarding exceeding a limit......although I have very few.
 
I had a hell of a job just signing in to tell them what I think of the unmitigated disaster. I think I have found another site that seems to be more informative and a hell of a lot easier to work within.
If someone screws up like this in the real world they are terminated.
If you are reading this whoever you are, you are most definitely in the wrong job here, a total ZERO could have handled this disaster better than you have.
And I never read a complaint about the old site other than how virtually impossible it was to post an image without going on a half day tour to get one inside it to share.
what a disaster it has become.
 
The real problem as I see it, is that you and whoever is working with you on this disaster, each have a PULSE.
Without one we would not have started into this mess and we could have all remained happy. For God’ sake return it to what it was, then find a stone to reside under and stay there.
 
Classified images were suddenly limited to only 5 (is that really going to be the default from now on?--seems very limiting). But since I placed my ad when there was the 10 limit, they have stayed, but now I can only delete, but not replace, until I get down to 5 or less.

MP Guy, I know I PM'd you about this, but just a reminder (since I'm sure there is a lot on your plate), when originally placing the ad, there was no warning that images were too large, causing the ad to simply not go through, losing all text too--this happened multiple times until I messaged you. Also, it says 'images are limited to 16mb' (but doesn't specify if that is total or for each image). I downsized my images so ALL 10 would have used less than 16mb and I still got the error
