Top 5 Movies of all time?

Some that come to mind, some not considered good:
Lawrence of Arabia
Antz
King's speech
From Dusk till Dawn
Thirteen Days

Tip 3:
Sucker Punch
Minority Report
Gladiator

And Carterofmars, what are your five picks?

Casablanca
Young Frankenstein
Blade Runner
Some Like it Hot
Freaks

But the best movie that I saw this week was Sharknado 2.

How about;

Stagecoach,
Way Out West,
The Ladykillers,
Some Like It Hot,
In joint 5th position are too many to list but...

Regards, David

PS We need a foreign section, I'll start with "Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis" but that complicates things as "Stagecoach" and "Some Like It Hot" are foreign and some would argue that "Way Out West" is but Stan Laurel is British. Nothing's ever simple is it?

Here are five of my favorites. No particular order:

1. Kind Hearts and Coronets
2. Paths of Glory
3. Seven Samurai
4. Amelie
5. Lord of the Rings (original Trilogy)

Regards,
Al

In no particular order:
- Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
- The Italian Job (the original not the crap remake....)
- City of God
- Monty Python and the Holy Grail
- The Bles Brothers

That would be the 1955 "The Ladykillers", and not the horrible US remake, I hope?

Hi,

Of course, the original is so near perfect that I wondered how anyone could even consider a remake.

BTW, years ago my boss at work was a kid living near Kings Cross station in London and he remembers the house being built at the end of the road for the film...

BTW 2, a scene in Harry Potter takes place on the same footbridge Prof Marcus used to take the pictures of the bullion arriving.

I'll change my mind tomorrow, but as of the moment . . .

Ran
Blue is the Warmest Color
Gone With The Wind
Citizen Kane
The Searchers (despite that John Wayne was in it!)

Runners-up . . . .

Amelie
The Bicycle Thief
King Kong (1933)
Of Human Bondage (Bette Davis)
A Christmas Carol (Alistair Sim)
Snow White
MP & The Holy Grail
Shane

No way I can keep the list down to five, but Forbidden Planet is in the top five of any list I can think of.

Also, The Red Balloon...
Schindler's List...

Wow! "The Bicycle Thief" I saw that when it came out years ago when I was on holiday...

I feel so old now.

Regards, David

  1. Glory
  2. Serpico
  3. Prince of the City
  4. The Hustler
  5. Jesus of Nazareth

Next 5
  • Horse Feathers
  • The March of the Wooden Soldiers
  • The Shootist
  • Raging Bull
  • Psycho

How did I forget Sunset Boulevard !?

And, despite it's generic homestyle menu, It's a Wonderful Life was a fine piece of work.

After yesterday's hideous and tragic news about Robin Williams, I'll have to add Dead Poets Society, Good Will Hunting and The Fischer King. I know that's more than 5 now - but I am truly gutted by the news. there'll be a lot less laughter in the world since his passing.
