Hi folks,

I was thinking we could pull together another Toronto area (including those in Northern NY State) meeting sometime in late January/early February.

The weather usually doesn't lend itself to too much "fun" shooting per se (not that we can't do that) but I thought it may be good to take a look at some of our own prints. Perhaps a lunch/brunch and some discussion on printing? This may be useful for those who have never wet printed before - maybe someone can do a small presentation?

I know I always come armed with cameras but I rarely bring any printed work and really, what's the point of having the cams if we're not printing a couple photos from the umpteen rolls of film (or, if any R-D1 folks come out - umpteen megabytes of digital files) that we shoot.

Is there any interest?
Feel free to toss out late January/early February dates so that we can get a consensus. January 28 or February 4 seem to be ok by me.

Cheers
Dave

We're open to suggestions - Somewhere that's convenient for those that would like to attend and is accessible by both public transit and autos.

Cheers
Dave

I'm in, and flexible with the date/location.

Is there another photo flea market/show coming up?

I'm good for either date if it's somewhere downtown. Hard to get to places like Thornhill by transit.

Sounds like a good plan. I'm in as long as it's not too early in the day ... I usually work until about 2 a.m. on Saturdays.

Well... I'm in Cambridge, first of all but used to live in Toronto. Is that close enough? ;)

Frankly, I'm quite new to RF photography and relatively new to photography in general. Any room for noobs who just want to tag along and learn stuff? I have the most basic of gear--Konica Auto S3--but would be interested in learning more.

The last meeting you guys had I noticed there was beer mentioned... That is definitely an area where I have experience! LOL

Peter C. (another one, hope that doesn't confuse things too much)

All and sundry are welcome to come along Peter :) The more the merrier :) We had quite a turnout at the last event in November - I'm thinking this one will be more indoors and probably go through some prints and discussion. Sort of ad hoc really :)

And yes, a beer may be involved :)

Peter: A couple of us came from the Rochester, NY area last time, and Cambridge is a helluva lot closer!

I will probably be in Stratford the last Saturday in January, so that is out for me. Later in February might be better for me, but if the other dates are better for the majority, I'll just have to wait until the next meet-up. I don't have a lot of RF stuff printed right now and don't currently have a darkroom. That's the next thing I want to remedy, but it will likely be summer before I can do that.

(Maybe someday GTA folks could come down here and we could go to George Eastman House and local galleries.)

Earl ... you giving tours?

Jan: I don't know if I'd be a great tour guide, but I'm a member at GEH and can probably arrange for a group there. Also, I can probably arrange for a tour to a local brewpub!

Ok I emailed the contact for the Toronto area camera show and this the info I got back:

Hi John:

Thank you for your interest in the camera shows. Show dates at Thornhill Community Centre, 7755 Bayview Ave. are as follows: Jan. 22, March 19, Sept. 10 & Nov. 19, 2006.

Hope to see you there, Sue

So if you were interested in combining the meeting and the show the date is Jan. 22/06

Bump.. are we good for January 22 (with the Thornhill show) or shall we push it later (i.e. January 28/29) ?

If need be, I can drive on the 22nd if it's not horribly early on the Sunday :)

Cheers
Dave

I think I will attend the show on the 22th. Never been there before. If a meet is there or on the same day somewhere else That's fine with me. Downtown or where ever John

Perhaps those who can, meet at the camera show in Richmond HIll in the morning (10am till noon) and then we can have a meeting in downtown TO, say 1pm till whenever, for whoever can make it there.

Or, those who can make it to the camera show, do so on Jan 22, and we can have another meeting for those who can a week or 2 later in downtown TO. 2 opportunities to meet.

I'm afraid that I have to miss this meeting. Being from norhtern Ontario, I have to go into hibernation during the winter months (Jan - March). The weather is too un-predictable for long distance driving.
