Mike Johnston at TOP posts an interesting piece about phony wildlife photography. He links to a rather damning report in the Audubon magazine.

The synopsis: Many dramatic wildlife scenes are staged with animals bred in captivity. Examples of obvious cruelty include tossing a polar bear cub down a mountain side and throwing battery acid on fish to make them flop.

Fake photography is not a new phenomenon, but at least when it involves people we can assume they were willing participants in the scam.

It is all about getting the shot. Of course, the way in which we respect our planet, the zoo and game farms may be the only place to see our "natural" world.
