Oh, my....
I hate Ritz but gave 'em the slides from our weekend at Orange Beach just to see how they came out. This time I used my old Nikon AF with 28-105mm lens and spent about 45 min on the beach at dawn...I knew the whole time that I was going to very happy with the images.
But, I was wrong.
I was blown away!
Not only did I select the correct lens for what I wanted, but the slides reminded me of what I have been missing for a long time! Amazing! Digital images on the widescreen monitor cannot compare!
Only wish I had a scanner so I could share them, but then, digital images of the slides don't compare....

Now now Dave, you know what the kids say these days....
Pictures or it didn't happen!
Ha, you should see medium format slides projected.

I was forced to go film RF for about a month a few months ago (M8 in repair) and chose to use slide film only. I was very happy with the results. However, they will ultimately end up digital, so...

Barry,
I can only imagine the MF projected!
However, I tried out the slide projector in the back yard the other night to see how well the images looked on the side of the house and it was absolutely too cool! Then, I turned it toward the back yard fence and I had the entire backyard lit up with slide images!!! Looks like I could easily get 50'x50' images on a large enough house!
Next week, I plan on having a patio party with the kids and grandkids coming over for root beer floats, ice cream and a slide show!
Fred, got one or two scanned that you could post?

I also just got some old slide film returned to me, it was exposed over 4 years ago. WOW!
Slide is the nuts.

Dave, I had the same feeling when looking at my last roll of Velvia 50. Pity that it's a bit of a pain to get developed here ...
And do get a scanner. My Nikon scanner positively prefers slide film
Incredibly sharp output.

I enjoyed more pure photography in that 45 minutes than I have in a long time. Using an 80's Nikon AF with that delicious film advance sound, a very good Nikkor lens early in the morning as the sun rose at the beach. No one anywhere in sight, just me, the beach and the most amazing light.
I knew with each shutter release, these photos were special.
The only way it could have been better would have been shooting the slides with the M3. Guess I will have to make another trip.

Yeah, I need a scanner. What Nikon do you have?
(Guess I will have to win the lottery to get one since my wife and I are both unemployed and I am a 24/7 caregiver.)
So, in the meantime, I will drive the neighbors crazy with a back yard slide show! Good thing it's not risque stuff!

The 5000ED, Dave. Nothing wrong with a back yard slide show (assuming you are adding burgers and beer
).

Don't do it... you'll bore the hell out them!

Slides are beautiful little things, especially on a lightbox.

I'd like to get back to shooting slides and project as well, but for some reason, I've been unable to keep the horizon straight the last few years. I don't know what happened. I need post processing to straighten everything these days.

Dave--Ritz still develops slides?
If so, how much for a 36 roll?
I've been having mine done at Wing's--they use E6 labs and it's 16.00 per 36.
I've asked them to scan them for me this time--so we'll see what happens.
Thanks!!

Hi, Paul...
Took a roll of XA2 color snaps for developing and scanning: 9.99
Also took a 36 roll of Velvia for processing and mounting: 11.99
They took a week as it had to go to Hapeville (an outlab item, whatever that means) and they turned out fine.
So far, I have been super happy with Precision Camera for all my black and whites for the latest project. May send them my slides from now on, too.
E-6 screwed up my last order last month by not scanning all of the rolls I sent them. Then, I sent them a roll from the band promo....not one was useable, it was almost blank; also included was a partial roll of 12 frames that came out so underexposed as to be unuseable. Total bill for developing 2 rolls and scanning 12 frames: $46.00. Beware!

Yikes!!! E6 did (through Wing's) some B+W and a CD and they turned out fine.
I've already sent them in--6 rolls of vacation slides.
Fingers crossed!
All the others they have done have been fine.
I'll bet Ritz sends them to E6--they are about the only E6 processing lab in these parts.
I think I'll do the Precision Photo next time...
Hope you are doing well.
What Nikon AF were you using?

it's unfortunate that you can't enjoy your slides without pissing all over my digital experience.

The best camera is one that still works!
My experience with transparency film was paying $20.00 for a roll of velvia here in Oz then another $20.00 to have it processed (not mounted) and handed back to me as an uncut roll by the lab.
It's nice ... but out of my league sorry. I bumped into someone the other day who shoots 4x5 tranparencies ...

Yeah, my own digital experience, too, which has been quite good!
BTW, got 100% keepers on that roll... Just goes to show that one of the first AF Nikon cameras that took amazing slide photos 20-30 years ago for me still makes better images than any Nikon DSLR I have ever owned or used.
The loupe and projection experience is just plain fun and fuels my passion for photographer all over again.
