These are shots from my recent project that has been focusing on the godlike qualities of trees, dont usually post projects due to the fact i rarely like any of my work to share but there are some decent shots in this one.

Im currently making it into a book to send to some friends and for me to keep.

Heres a quote from the book:

Trees have an immortality about them, they see generations of change and change themselves as the world does. Their leaves become different colours to show their excitement at the seasons – gentle shades of green, dull browns, warming reds. Branches play an endless loop of growing twigs, losing them and growing them again. Reacting to the variation of light, branches change shapes. Always experiencing, watching, feeling without intentions, they stand tall as elderly human beings get buried in their soil. Gods towering above every living thing, outliving the smartest of creatures. Each one Unique. They let foliage cling to them, animals make a home in them, and humans lean against them. They are welcoming deities.

Nice project and images Jake (would be nice to see more), thanks for sharing and good luck with the book!

I like your quote from the book. Very good thoughts and I like your philosophy as you describe it.

Sitting on the ground and leaning my back on the trunk of a tree, when it's warm out, can be a nice place to take a nap!

Show us some more, please! I really like trees, and I really like your quote from your book.

With best regards,

Pfreddee(Stephen)

Nice to see a youngster shooting B&W film and classic bodies. Nice photos and great quotes!

Heres some more from a recent field day to the national pinetum. The shots were mostly underwhelming but I did get these decent shots I was able to work with - not sure about the context to the project though.

Jake, your tree-book is an excellent concept, and your photographs are really nice. The quote demonstrates that you have been giving this project a lot of thought. Good work and good luck!

Great pictures all of them Jake, the second one (top post) really conveys a sense of solidity, and you've got the background spot on. The third one to me gives the impression of independence. As to which fit the project, only you know that. It's interesting that in the fourth pic, the tree appears vertical until you look at its reflection, and it shows it has a little tilt to it. The fifth one has a great depth, but looks better in the main pic than the thumbnail below it - it needs to be a big picture.

Thank you for your critique and I have to agree with you. I might either give the 5th one a DPS or simply omit it altogether as it's a more Mediocre shot.

DPS? I don't think it's necessarily a bad shot, the lightness of the tree brings it to the front, away from the background, the shadow underneath gives the picture depth, those things don't seem to come out of a smaller version - maybe because you can't see the leaves so well. It could be an endpaper or something. Anyway just my 2p!

Great shots Jake!

Especially fond of the 1st (RB67 Acros100)

It would make a great cover/sleeve?
Given any thought to where you'll have it made?

This is from a roll I took on my last business trip.

Was a bit disturbedabecause I didnt notice the face glaring at the camera when I took the shoot till I scanned :).

By the way, love the first and third photos Jake.

Two more - been working on these a lot and have over 50 files in the folder but have only selected 15 or so. Its a challenge selecting images that are good enough despite them all being taken for a reason.

The first image is in the first section which looks at their godlike appearance whereas the second image is in the last section which looks at rebirth after death and how trees live on in products.

It feels good making photos with meaning as opposed to taking them randomly however, Its hard taking images I like. Hope you guys like them.
