Hi,

lately I'm developing some Tri-X at ISO 1600 in Rodinal. Started with 1+50 and soon went to 1+25 for better negative contrast, as scene contrast is typically low (overcast weather this time of year). My reference is now 1+25 10' agitation each minute. On the last roll, I made a series of test shots on ISO 1600, ISO 800 and ISO 400. Looks like this development is not doing any harm to the ISO 400 highlights, so I guess I can even increase development for the ISO 1600 exposure, to further improve negative contrast.

For more contrast, you typically increase developer dilution, rather than development time, right? Should I go for Rodinal 1+15? Or is this not-done? Or should I just go for 14' in Rodinal 1+25? The latter may be better for more shadow detail to come out?

Groeten,
Vic

I don't know, it is always worth a try. But from what I have read it is not recommended: 1+25 is the upper limit. Usually, I just increase agitation or development time to increase contrast. TriX is funny, to me, in that the contrast starts to diminish as density increases. That's just the way I feel (but I shoot TriX at 250). I know that people will disagree with that. Another article I read didn't like TriX in Rodinal 1+100, and this I agree with. But back to 1+15, Rodinal does have the reputation for increasing contrast at less and less dilutions.
