Hi guys

After my exciting time in Sicily I'm off to Trieste in October. Has anyone here been?

I'll be interested to hear about any recommendations for places to go and shoot. My GF is getting into photography too so whilst I'll take my R-D1 and VC 28mm she'll have another R-D1 and VC 35 1.4.

Should be a lot of fun!

Cheers

I was there for a day some years ago. I can't really offer much in the way of specific information, but I do recall it was a more open and geometrically regular city (larger avenues, fewer alleys and tiny side streets) than many in Italy, probably a remnant of its Austrian heritage.

It's well off the usual tourist trail, but all the better for it. Went 3 years ago as my uncle is buried in the British military cemetery there. Castello di Miramere is a little way out of town, but we'll worth a visit.

Trieste is pretty cool. It has some nice streets to wander around in, and you should definitely make it down to the water. I agree with 02pilot in that it appears to be a more "open" city than most of those in Italy, but I think it's still fairly compact compared to most US cities.

I was only there for a couple of days, as there's not much to do (for someone visiting, that is). Although, you could hike to Slovenia (it's really close).

I stopped in Trieste on the way to the Istrian Peninsula. I'd post a pic or two, but all my shots were taken with film, and I haven't scanned any of them.

Have fun.

Yeah, Slovenia's right next door, and Istria is not too much further - both recommended. There was a recent thread on the former in this forum.
