Two questions and one comment

1. Okay what is G.A.S.? I've looked hi and low and I keep trying to figure it out, with no luck

2. What's the difference with Skopar and Heliar is it a brand thing.

1. I just orderd my Bessa -R. My first RF, (Not including the broken Canonnet 28), and can I tell you I am PSYCHED😀 :dance:

G.A.S. is RFF-speak for "gear acquistion syndrome", a chronic malady leading to amassing enormous amounts of camera stuff.

Skopar and other names usually refer to the design of the lens (elements and groups).

No way..That's what I have!

As for the lens names, is there a key for this stuff? I might just change my handle to Skopar.. I find my self saying it a lot.

Origionally

Skopar = 4 element Tessar clone
Heliar = 5 element

They were both Cooke triplet derivatives arranged

PNP

where P is converging and N diverging

In the Skopar the rear P is a cemented pair
On the Heliar both the front and rear Ps are ccemented pairs

The Heliar performed marginally better.

Today they are ad mans tools like WMD etc.
