Let me give some back story before I ask my discussion question. I am no stranger to rangefinder lenses and leica. I have owned quite a few cameras and lenses. a couple of my favorites in the past have been the 28mm summicron v1, the 35mm summicron v4, 28mm voigtlander ulron v2, 28mm summaron reissue, reissue steel rim 35mm and the 50mm summicron v5. over the years life changes and your prioritys change. I recently had a baby and sold a few things to help pay for a house. One of my biggest regrets is selling my 28mm summicron v1. I have bought and sold quite a few things and now I am trying to switch back to having a good everyday rangefinder lens and another digital color body. My current m bodys are a m3 and a epson rd1 and I have 5 lenses that I use on those 3 nikkors: 3.5cm f2.5, 5cm f1.4 and 3.5cm f1.8 all adapted with an amadeo adapters, I also have a 50mm elmar M (newer version), and a 5cm elmar f3.5 ltm. The nikkors are fun but the 35mm focus throw is too long and kinda not fun for everyday, the rendering is kinda soft at f1.8 - 5.6 on all the nikkors lacking good micro contrast in color shots, and only 1M close focusing distance. I am planning on buying another m8, m9 or m262 in the summer. but thats the future and for the time being I gotta live with apsc crop factor and film. My real questions are what lens should I start with for everyday use for the next few years. Kinda looking for a new everyday lens that I can keep forever. or at the very least a sharper lens focuses down to .7 and can be useful across formats. I dont really want a voigtlander lens or a zeiss lens. although the newest 35mm f1.2 from voigtlander seems interesting.
PS I really like the aps-h crop on the m8. The most fun I have had using a 35mm. 45mm equiv. but you dont have to use an external finder. the apsc on the epson 35mm is like a 50mm but I dont mind that either. I really dont like 50mm lenses on the epson making them like a 75mm. But I would like 50mm on the m9. 28mm traditionally it was easy for me to zone focus and I really liked on full frame for tight quarters like in a car or kayaking or something like that and it would be good on the epson or m8 too.
the lenses I am thinking about buying are the 28mm cron v1, 35mm cron v3 or 4., 35mm Summilux fle or prefle, Some interesting lens thoughts - 18mm f3.8 super elmar (would be really close to full frame 28) 50mm summilux asph in silver chrome would be great once I get a m9 or m262. I would like the weight of that one. I wish I could buy them all!
the best I can say is I am leaning to the 28mm summicron v1. Anyways what are all of your thoughts.
