On the weekend I found this on eBay: 190142371014 <-- this is a direct link to the auction.
The seller claims it to be a repainted M2 black paint. Am I the only one who believes that he somehow repainted that beautiful used cam himself with a spray can, since the engraved parts seem to be filled with paint?
I wonder how beautiful it looked without almost any paint before...

Looks also cheaply overpainted to me.

No way to tell if there is a black camera underneath without knowing
the serial nr.

Roland.

omg, should ask for the serial number to confirm that it was a black M2 to start with. looks like to me somebody tried to paint a chrome m2 and f*%&#@ up big time and is trying to sell it to some poor soul. He mentions "maybe you could do it better" and that the cracked viewfinder is replaceable.........this is almost as bad as those fake rusky LTMs.

The following questions pertain to this forum only:

Why do people refer to ebay as "the bay" or "*bay" or "that auction site".

Why do people always paste the auction number instead of a direct link to the auction?

This is perfect for those who use gaffer's tape to camouflage the camera. It's already been done.

However, the seller makes a lot of unsubstantiated (and nearly outrageous) claims regarding the camera. Missing screws and cracks aren't a good sign.

Yes, even the counter is well camouflaged. Instead of the counter you can scratch marks in the paint for each frame shot. Sooner or later the camera will be stripped off the paint again.

My guesses.

Probably to avoid search bots looking for the name.

As for directly linking the auctions - most sites keep track of where links originate. So it's a courtesy to protect the RFF, and keep that knowledge from being used to target the backers.

it's too bad that suckers will eventually wind up paying for this.......oh well it's almost like something I alomst bid on but then realized it was too good to be true.

it was a black mint nib M8 with a starting price of 1900 dollars. I emailed the seller for the reserve price and asking if he would part with it for $2500 (much too low I would think). I got a reply "yes" at which point i thought this could be fraud. I never bid and this morning the auction was gone. last time I checked yesterday the auction had 3 days to go.

be careful out there people.

I would buy it, but as a user, not a collectable. My XA has a cracked vf, and you can't even tell because is is so far out of the plane your eye is focused on. Some paint stripper would obviously be called for.

And here we are, trying to keep the price low .... How's that 85/1.5 ? :)

For our German friends: what does "Verschluß läuft sauber ab." mean? Babelfish only tells me it mean "The catch runs off cleanly." What could "the catch" be?

If it stays low, it would be a heck of a great project camera. I think the guy who created the RFF cases was selling some tools for take apart of early M cameras at a great price on EvilBay!

Is this Andy Rooney?

The auction number is a bit simpler, because eBay generates some very long URL strings.

As for the other, I never understood it either. Always seemed borderline infantile and pretentious to me. Just say "eBay." No one has a problem saying Craiglist or flea market or boot sale.

I think the mention of eBay on photo.net was frowned upon. I could never get a clear answer.
