Well, it's been ages since I bought my last FSU RF, a pretty nice FED2b with collapsing lens. So long ago that I can claim that I'm cured! No gas at all. Settled down to a course of CLA and repair, and using them of course.
Now the lens on this latest FED was in nice shape, I gave it a strip and clean (and had the problem I posted on) and now it is just lovely. So nice, in fact, that I thought it looked a little out of place on the FED2. But what could do it justice? This question was on my mind as I made a trawl of thE bay when the thought struck me that I should have a 1. Since then GAS levels have been building, But this is so unfair! I had avoided bottom feeders because they're so difficult, aren't they? They can't be easy to use can they?

what's gas?

the fed 5 and industar-50 that arrived two weeks ago?

is it the sbooi that arrived last week?

is it the kiev 4a that arrived friday?

is it the zorki-zorki that arrived today?

the industar-22?

i don't understand. what are you talking about?

to pull you in a bit further.. bottom loaders are a bit slower but not that hard. and they can be very fast and convenient if you get an extra spool or two and just have them ready in your bag, film attached and cut, ready to rock.

1's are in my humble opinion the coolest feds/zorkis by a long long shot.

i'm not gonna stop you - good luck :)

If you trim the film leader the bottom loads easily. The FED and Zorki 1 are tiny little things perfect for that collapsible lens.

So very true!

The 2 is good.
The 3 is fine.
The 1 alone
Is quite sublime!

And don't believe
The back door twaddle!
Bottom loading
Is a doddle!

Ian

Ps. I have 2 Fed 5s :D

What are friends for?

I thought I was over GAS, too. I have a lovely Leica IIIc with a J12, a Zorki 3M with a J8, and a FED 2 with a J9. What more could a reasonable person want?

Well.....

A friend recently picked up a Zorki 1. Paid a premium but it was like new with new shutter curtains. It was as smooth as my Leica IIIc. Maybe the smoothness was not typical. But the little Zorki 1 made my Leica IIIc look big. I'm using a J8 on a Zorki 3M but I've got a very pretty I-50 that I thought I would use on the Zorki 3M when I wanted something more compact. The I-50 looks better on the Leica IIIc than on the Zorki 3M but a J12 lives on the little Leica. The I-50 would look best of all on a Zorki 1. And it would be a lot more compact that a Zorki 3M. I wonder what Oleg has for Zorki 1s?

I need to stop reading threads like this.

Ah Gordon, the Zorki 3m.....I promissed myself not to endure the torture of drooling over that one, tried to stay away from them, but only because I was always outbid by long way. There must be others similarly (in fact more) smitten. So a ONE won't hurt and is easier to load than it looks and is kewl. I didn't realise that they (FED/Zorki 1) are small. mmm maybe just one then...

GAS ? Never heard of it.

I bought my first Zorki with an Industar-22 mid-february. In a few days I'll have 2 bodies, 3 lenses, 2 leather pouches and a Gordy strap. Indeed, I've bought a Summaron 35/f3.5, and then added a iiic+Summitar 50/f2 because the iiic came as a rear lens cap.

I *was* thinking I'd finally be able to spend more money on film than on gear, but it'll be some time before I get that done now. Anyway, except for the iiic with its pouch, I had decided I wanted a faster 50mm and a 35mm, but now the Leica is on its way, the slow shutter speeds will be appreciated *and* used a lot. Unfortunately, they also mean I will need a new meter, because my selenium one doesn't go too low. And if I'm getting that from Robert White, I might as well add a 35mm vf and whatsmore.

Peter.

Gentlemen... you're all very pathetic.

And I salute your enthusiasm! :)

Now... time to check evilbay.

I too should stop reading threads like this one.

Yes, that's the strange thing. Even while I'm wondering why the hell I ended up with a new body, I still have the tendency to check yaBe :) The good news is that I've uploaded some new pictures in my gallery, in the galleries: passages, BKGo and rangefinder.

GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome)

Apparently there is no known cure.

The purchase of my 15th almost cured me! Took another two before I got back into the swing of it. I wonder why my wife is so ..er.....enthusiatic when another package arrives, "I hope that's not another Russian" she says, "oh no dear, just a lens for the Nikon" I say, hoping the she will never know just how ferociously expensive it was, when even the lens filter cost as much as 3 or 4 'russians'. Anyway, perhaps this is cheaper than therapy.
Maybe buying FSU gear, discussing problems here and then getting it to work by tender CLA work IS therapy...HA!
