I have recently bought a Sokol 2 off ebay and I have realized that there is no yellow patch or anything to get that double image focusing in the viewfinder. Is it something that is worth repairing? Is there a remedy other than zone focusing?

50mm + f/2.8 + close focus distance = shallow DOF - which asks for good sense of distance. Or external rangefinder. Another option is to open that wonderbox to see what exactly has happened there (is there rattling sound if you shake camera?). Or just buy another Sokol, if you like particular model but don't want to deal with other options.

There is no rattling shaking it. I have noticed that if I turn it to some really bright light source I get a faint yellow patch. The same things happens when I open the battery compartment atop the camera. It seems light comes through the somewhat transparent walls of the compartment and makes the yellow patch visible.
Although I like its looks, this must be one of the worst designed cameras (mostly speaking of ergonomics).

Something weird that I have noticed with this camera. The automatic mode works with or without battery. I have verified the exposure and it gets close to the proper one. How can that be?
Is there any detailed information about this camera on the internet? I have read many talking about red and green arrows, but mine has none of that. When a proper exposure cannot be achieved, a red block appears in the viewfinder. Otherwise the aperture/shutter combination appears.
