When I focus on infinity the lenses scale is on 25 meters. It's correct if used with a Zorki C.
So what can I do to correct that? I saw that the J9 in ltm can be taken down ito two components rather easily. I fould an aluminium ring that is probably a shim.
I tried to focus without the shim but the result was still the same.
What can you recommend?
The way I see it now the RF wrongly meters a the correct distance at 25 m so additional shimming should solve the problem.
Anyome with more experience in that matter?
best regards from Vienna

can't help you with disassembly and all that, but my j-9 doesn't focus well on Bessa R, but it does fine on Zorki 6 and for some reason on Leica M2.

It could be that the someone tried to clean and lube the focussing and put it back the wrong way... but then it wouldn't focus corectly on the Z-C... seems like a mystery..

try to explain this:
When I focus on infinity the lenses scale is on 25 meters

Does that mean when you focus at something distant with the rangefinder the scale on lens shows 25m ?

Exactly! If I focus it on the Bessa R it's 25 meters on the Zorki C it's OK

Screw Jupiter-9 has 3 (three) helicoids inside with only one correct way of assembling the lens back. A good way to spend a couple of weeks on a 'soviet style' puzzle. 🙄
Or a good reason to have digital compact to shoot ALL stages of work.

Did the lens come with the Zorki C ?
Or is it a Zorki that you had before ?
Does your bessa focus OK with other LTM lenses ?

(I'm trying to figure whether the lens is incorrectly assembled or the RF on your camera is miscalibrated)

I must be lucky, because my J-9 focuses beautifully on my Bessa.
Good Luck.__________________

Hi Bill,
Mine does as well (no issues at all) but I had Fedka's technician rebuild it. Worth every penny of the forty US dollars I paid for the service. Also he shipped it back the same day he received it 🙂

I bought mine from Yuri 🙂 It's as nice an FSU lense as I've seen ... 1959, mechanically smooth, and not a mark on the glass. I've used the fedka service for a Kiev, Fed3, and had him cla the I61 on the Fed. They do good work.

What about the short rf base on the bessa R not being too user friendly on these longer lenses?

No. J3 (1971), J11 (2 samples) I got focused presisely wide open with R and R2M

On the other hand, J3 (1956) and J9 were usable only from f/4

Thanks for the infos1
I tried out all my FSU 50's (J8's : 2black, 2chrome, Industars collpsible, panda &L/D) so about 7 lenses (sorry not at home!)
The result: When wide open and I focused on the eyes I had sharp ears.
Since I use very often f2&1/30 that's a bit annoying.
Hi Ondrej: The J9 was bought separately. It also has a strange quirk: When focusssing at close distance it has a gap meaning it looks slightly like a collapsible.
I try to collimate it witzh my primitive means......after having enjoyed today the primitive art of connecting a Zenit Mir 37 to a Zorki 6 and having resuklts on a screen....

I believe that is normal for some J9s. My LTM J9 does the same thing, although my Kiev J9 does not.

It seems you are rediscovering what was already discovered by Dante Stella: The famous FSU M39 vs. Leica incompatibility.

But I don't understand why...
When I focus on infinity the lenses scale is on 25 meters.
...because at inf. both standards are the same. The difference only shows up at close distances.

When focusssing at close distance it has a gap meaning it looks slightly like a collapsible
If you mean that the optical part is sticking out to the front more at close distances - that's completely normal.

Exactly...

Exactly...

what I meant. As both of my Kiev J9's do not have this tendency to show their innards I was a bit puzzled when I noticed first....So don't focus closely in dusty areas as it fill it up completely
