As mentioned in a previous thread, I'm downsizing my RF kit. Currently looking at a trade deal for a 40/2.0 Rokkor (CLE version) in exchange for my 5th version 'cron. Of course he'll add some money for his side of the deal.

Given that my 'cron has clear optics, minimal barrel brassing, both caps and two hoods (for extra protection! ;) ) what is a fair value for it?

The Rokkor is described as " mint condition with rubber hood". ~value?

TIA!/ScottGee1

Scott,

For general & current prices I start here:

Leica M Price Guide

I believe the Rokkor is listed on this page. BTW, if your deal falls through I might be willing to talk about trade w/cash.

This is the current 'cron with built in hood?

No, it the one just prior to it. Same formula as I understand it. From what I read, built-in hoods are less desireable but would certainly be more difficult to misplace! :D

Thanks!/ScottGee1

actually, the 'cron can be found for as low as $500 (usually the canadian version).. but $600 is fairly common, too

the Rokkor goes for $250-300 on average

Ooops!

Ooops!

I should add that he originally posted the Rokkor with an asking price of US$280 and we got into a trade discussion.

My goal is to find a deal that is fair to both of us. Since he's in the UK, we each have to pay international shipping rates. :(

My 'cron was made in Canada. From what you're saying, can I assume there's a German version as well? If so, I would think the Canadian version would be worth more to an English speaker because translation wouldn't be necessary. :D

I think Brett is right, with some shopping you can find a 50 'Cron for as low as $500, but on average they sell for more. I have the same 50' cron that you have. When I was shopping I was surprised to find that on average they sell for more than the current version. $700 would be a real high end "fair" price for this lens, but I would think that is high. I will adjust my guess to $600 to $650.
