I understand why some folks like to poke fun at Leica.

But not all Leica users go for this sort of thing,
so including all Leica users in ther ridicule is not fair.

A strong second to that remark. Many of us just like cameras. And have many of them. In a lot of cases that includes one or more Leicas. They are good looking (see recent poll), functional and tough. They are expensive, which makes them a target, in many ways. But the bottom line is they furnish a very good platform to use to produce photos.

If you don't want to pay the price, there are ample alternatives. If you can't afford one, take your time and save till you can... you may be digital by then :bang:

And if you have a lot of extra "fun" money, there are investment opportunities. By the way, I have a toll bridge for sale, will fly anywhere to discuss.. just send ticket and expenses.

I sense that Rich Pinto's language here is for those who buy cameras as an investment, and not as tools. Hence all that fetish rhetoric in the ad.

Leica users are, in fact, a very practical bunch. I, for one, don't give a hoot about the red dot. My cameras simply never attract attention by themselves: I have seen it, I have tested it.
 
I was just poking fun, I have nothing against Leica users, or collectors.

But trying to pass of a collectors item (that is all red) as a great user because it draws "less attention" ?

right 😉
 
Man, that is one unattractive camera: and the signature on the top pushes it over the edge into the silly-zone.
 
Man, that would be a great MP if it only:

1) had a frame preview selector;
2) had black covering; and
3) didn't have somebody else's signature on the top!
 
The color is probably what I like the least about it but I would have to see it in person to make a decision on that. Very often photos like these don't do the camera justice. I like having a different color covering, as long as it is not garrish.
 
Im always amused when Leica removes features, charges more and calls it special and rare! No one else could get away with it. Although I remember when Ferrari F40 came out and it only had a piece of rope to open the door from the inside, to save weight and space you understand LOL Nothing like establishing a brand and exploiting it!
 
Err... really not sure about this at all.

The loss of the preview lever to me anyway does not make sense, I use it a lot.

Covering in red, I'd consider it.... if the covering fell off the original.

Removing the 28 and 135 framleines... why? OK I don't have a 135 but do not mind that much, I may get a used one in the future.

If I scatched the name on the top of my camera can I sell it for a grand more? 😛

Now I really do like Leica stuff, but only stuff that would be used and not treated like jewlery. If anything for me these "special editions" only serve to devalue the name as a current photographic instrument. Maybe I'll wait for the Mr Blobby edition, carefully created without lens mount but with 'classic self timer' added. I'll give this one a miss.

Don't get me wrong, I have no issue with any camera being personalized but I'd take the regular model every time. The best Leica IMHO is a Leica that is used as a regular camera complete with scratches dents and everything else.
