I might be travelling to Vietnam soon and of course, bringing my film cameras. Wanted to know if anyone's had their film scan through the X-rays upon arrival...

...and does anyone know of film shops there just incase :)

No problem as long as you carry film in your handheld luggage. The x-ray machines are up to date. In most towns you'll find color film but b&w film is hard to find. In Ho Chi Minh City you can buy 35mm color and b&w film at:

saigonphotocenter.com.vn
114Bis, Đường Nam Kỳ Khởi Nghĩa, District 1

Developing b&w film: 180.000 Dong (US$ 8)...the same price for scanning negatives onto a CD.

Went to Hanoi, great place, for a change I took a Fuji 645 and 120.
Don't recall being scanned on arrival..
I take 400 film with me on most every trip to Europe and Asia, wouldn't say I've noticed a problem typically related to X-Ray.
It's only ever handcarry though

You won't have any problems with X-Ray if you carry your films in your carry-on baggage.

Vietnam has a quite active film photographer scene, especially in Hanoi and Saigon / HCMC.
There are several labs and shops in both cities offering film and processing service.
For more details you should have a look at the group "FILM PHOTO CLUB" on Facebook. It is by far the biggest and most active film photographer group there and about 95% of the group members are from Vietnam!!

Just hope you don't get the miserable inspector that I got in Hanoi . It wasn't enough to show him the opened boxes of 120 film , but he insisted on opening every foil packet . But I did get every film hand checked without going through x-rays, and when there we flew a lot . For what it's worth both Saigon and Hanoi are huge cities and the idea of just getting around to one shop or another may be more than anticipated ! Loved them both and everywhere we visited last fall . Peter
