I don't want to fork out half what I paid for the camera itself again for a viewfinder, would cheaper alternatives do?

Pentax has a 43/50 finder that is very nice.

The CV 25mm finder is Nice and bright. Any of the 24/25 MM finders look huge on the LX3.
BTW a very cheap alternative at the 60mm end of the LX3 zoom range for a finder.........Yashica electro tele-finder for the add on lenses.
Pretty close to the same FOV and can be had for quite cheap although may be difficult to find without a camera.
Mine came with a Electro GT I bought that included the lenses (they are worthless). The whole kit was under $50. Oh yeah you get a camera out of the deal also

Alica I had been using the CV one until I was able to get the Panasonic one. The CV is 25mm and I no longer need it since the Panasonic one came in today. If you're wanting the CV one I'll sell mine.
