I have several visoflex II mirror housings in various conditions. I have both screw and bayonet style mounts. I have swapped mounts and arms and disassembled and cleaned the focusing screens. What I have not attempted yet is to clean and re-lube a mirror return mechanism properly. I did re-lube one improperly one time by applying a small amount of silicone spray. I know that is an absolute no-no, but I was desparate. It actually has worked fine ever since.

Now I want to more or less properly clean and lube the the mechanism on one of the other ones. Do I need to disassemble the whole mirror housing or is there another way short of that? What type of lubrication should be used? I am assuming it should be something like white lithium grease.

Thanks for your help.

Here is one of my favorite Viso combinations sitting on another item of mine from the same era.

Roland,

Thanks for the advise. Got out some silicone and a toothpick to apply it. The mirror is flipping much better. Now I need to find a thumb screw to replace the screw that holds the shutter release arm on. Then I can quickly switch between using M style and LTM style arm. I already have an extra M to LTM adapter. Then I will have a Viso II that can easily be used on both my M2 and my LTMs.
