Vivian Maier Movie

Yay For Miss Feb 1st !!!
Too bad She coud not have Lived to see her Success
How her Photos Touch Lives

Thanks. Just glimpsing a few of those shots confirms the genius she had, pointed to especially by the second last interviewee in the trailer, who alluded to some rapport she must briefly have generated to get some of the shots she did. I am amused when types claim she is overestimated. In the most recent book there is a marvellous shot of two girls talking by a wire fence at the beach, and the one facing the camera has the most knowing smile, eyes downcast. It can't be a candid so close, and I wonder if the girl is smiling at something Maier has just said, rather than her friend.

That was Joel Meyerowitz, so he should know about street photography!

It is an interesting point though, everything pointing to her being aloof and self contained yet she did clearly create a considerable empathy with the people she photographed. But I have wondered if it was more the Headmistress approach, nobody dare say anything for fear of being told off!

Good point! :)

I might see this with an old photographer friend this week while I'm here in Chicago. Has anyone seen it yet? Any reviews?

Watched it last night on Comcast on demand - same day as theaters!

Very well done, she was really weird (like all photos) and the young guy who put it all together was amazing...what a project!!!

Some really nice photos...this woman had a great eye!
