Just a quick note to let everyone know that we did not just have a 450+ post debate on whether a recently deceased female photographer's work is overrated.

The thread did not contain side arguments on the nature of celebrity and the merit of artistic works.

There was no commentary on when threads should be deleted.

Indeed, this very post probably never existed either.

Nothing to see here. Carry on.

Maybe offering an explanation by way of a new thread is a better route than sitting on the information. It might demonstrate a little respect for the people who chose to spend their time here instead of at other fora and pursuits.

Must be latent sexism. Just remember that it's only sexism when it's a male who says it first.

I didn't read the original post so I guess it was deleted. Blatant sexism and racism are frowned upon I hope in this day and age but subtle forms of the same are alive and well. I remember reading an article about Gordon Parks regarding an upcoming exhibition and the author referred to Parks as a black photographer. I was taken back somewhat but thought perhaps the label had to do with how Park's background played a major influence on his art (as this would be true in general). I never see Leibovitz referred to as a Jewish photographer or Spielberg referred to as a Jewish director but Ang Lee is often quoted as a notable "Asian" director as if his greatness needs to be qualified. The worse kind of sexism, racism, anti semitism are the subtle and acceptable kind.

Yeah yeah, I accidentally changed the thread ID number, when the OP deleted the primary post again, so we had to ask the programmer to try and find the thread.
So - contraringly to what he wrote in a thread he started a few minutes ago, in which he asked the mods to delete all his posts and also his account, Ansel deleted the whole "Is Vivian Maier overrated" thread a second time.

And, of course, he has now deleted the very thread in which, as an answer to my question, he wrote he hadn't.

No further comment is needed I guess.

That is rather disappointing.

Let's lay off of Ansel, it is his right to delete whatever he wants, he might have caught that thread by accident. Anyway I guess we will find out in the next few days what is happening.

Honestly I really think folks on the internet tend to get too serious. I see the Rff as entertainment.

This too will pass.

I agree.
