I just picked up a 35es from a thrift store near me. I haven't been able to find any manuals for it online (except for one in french -_-), nor for any of the 'identical' cameras so can somebody explain how i'm supposed to open the cot damn camera back? Also what is this GN sytem?

Thanks in advance!!!!!!!

GN stood for Guide Number and is used to set the proper aperture for flash. It's based on flash output, film speed and distance to the subject.

thanks both of you! and rbiemer since i opened the back i found that the plate was completely out of place, which explains the awkward, laborious clickety noise i was getting with the film winder  now everything is winding smoothly. just look to be in dire need of a reseal.

there are only two issues now, perhaps i could solve these myself and save money on a repair? first thing is the odd behaviour of the self-timer. whatever position it's in it simply wobbles slightly back and forth and rotating it either direction again requires more pressure and feels kind of...sticky? normally this wouldn't be an issue as i have no use for the self-timer but whenever i depress the firing button it stays down and won't go back up again unless the timer is wound (from original position) all the way to the bottom.

also the light meter appears completely unresponsive, to light and physical movement. i can't recall if the meter is battery dependent or not (no bats atm) but the meter doesn't even wobble, it just stays at 16, regardless of shutter speed or light source. i think i read here that this could be caused by something physically blocking it in place. how would i go about having a look myself?
