Vladimir, San Francisco

i saw him walking on Market in front of Old Navy once when i lived in SF... i immediately noticed that his camera was bare brass... i wonder how much weight he saved by chemically de-chroming his cameras. i also wonder how much weight he added by putting minnie and mickey stickers on them :D

Appears each camera has a diff lens. Chances are 35 cron and early 90mm. Smart guy knowing that even old gears are still great.

FYI. I just talked to him yesterday along with Brad who took the photo in the link above. He uses a 50 Summilux and altered the aperture & focus ring so he can shoot with one hand. He also has a 35 Summicron attached to his other M2 in his pocket and various other lenses, one which is a Noc. He is quite a character and is a valuable source of information. It was a treat to talk to him.

Hi John,

Thanks for the info. That is some heavy duty gear!!!
I would love to see some of his photographs.

RLouzan

Hi...

I've been trading prints in the mail (a stamp on a print makes it a postcard) with Vladimir for a couple years and have a dozen. When talking to him with John on Saturday I asked for and received permission to scan them and post on my blog.

So, one of these days I'll do that and write a bit more about him...

Brad

Can't wait to see them Brad. I think the most fascinating part of our discussion was when he purchased an M3 for a few hundred, painted it black and sold it for over $3500+. He said he needed to do it to continue his craft :).

Thought some might want to know I posted one of Vlad's photos to my blog and wrote a bit about him.

I'm thinking I'll do this every Friday; posting one of his photos and some things I've discovered and learned while talking with him. He's quite a character and a wealth of information.

Brad

Thanks, Brad. I look forward to seeing more of his pics. And I enjoyed reviewing your blog. Lots of interesting shots and I like your commentary too. Definitely makes me want to get back out there on the streets and shoot more myself.

Thanks for the post, Brad; I love discovering new blogs and especially this type of street photography that's inspiring to hacks like me.
