Hello,

I just thought I should share my first impressions of the Voigtländer Vito CLR that I recently bought on eBay.

I got it for just over $20, and I didn't expect too much. The camera looks fairly good though, the light meter seems to work just fine, only the aperture and shutter speed dials are not exactly smooth to operate--probably a good cleaning would be good.

The size of the camera is really nice, yet it is not exactly ergonomic. However, it's something to get used to, as is the fact that the shutter release button is next to the lens.

The first roll of film I shot came out pretty OK. Most shots in low light were not too satisfying, however, when the light was right, the outcome was pretty impressive for such an old camera.

I have attached one image here, but since I cannot post huge images here, I posted my favorites online with links to the original scans:

I use a Canon FS4000FS film scanner. It's slow, but results are quite nice.

Seems you've had better luck with your CLR than I..

I had a CLR a while back that I desperately tried to get in working order again. No such luck. Even after taking the shutter apart and cleaning it with lighter fluid a couple of times, I just couldn't get it to operate reliably. The moment there was film in the camera, the shutter would stick. Most probably because the advance mechanism -which also winds up the shutter- was worn down. In the end, I just gave up, which is a bit of a shame, as your photos show that it's a very capable picture taker!
