This is my first post on RFF! I'm excited to share with all of you my first trip out with the brand new Voigtlander 15mm f/4.5 Sony E-mount lens.

One of the many rock faces at Stoney Point: f/8

I received a test lens from Stephen at CameraQuest a couple of days ago and decided I would take it out to Stoney Point, a local climbing area / city park in the San Fernando Valley just north of Los Angeles. I am a young photographer, just getting my first paying jobs! I usually focus on outdoor adventure photography so I decided to take this lens out with me on a rock climbing trip.

None of the photos were sharpened, just color corrected. I shot everything in manual and plan to go out again and shoot in the different modes to see how this lens works. I wanted to post a screen shot of my Camera Raw to show that the EXIF info communicates with photoshop and it immediately corrected for any chromatic aberrations. There isn't a specific lens corrections profile yet, but I imagine we will get one soon!

This lens is amazing and am very pleased with its build quality, sharpness and functionality. Though the edges can be soft, this lens makes up for it in a lot of ways. if you know how to use this lens, the softness in its edges can be hidden.

Stoic after a climb: f/4.5

I usually wouldn't use a lens like this for a portrait but I wanted to show how sharp it is at f/4.5. The photograph above was taken wide open and you can really see its sharpness and bokeh in this photo.

The aspect of this lens that I was most excited to use was the magnification. The lens communicates to the A7RII and allows for focusing magnification as soon as I start to move the focus helical. This is really advantageous for the photos like the photo above. I was on an obscure ledge trying to shoot that one moment. I was able to tilt the screen downwards toward me and as I began to pull focus, the a7II would magnify, allowing for precise focusing. This ensured I had the proper focus and allowed me to get the right moment without worry.

I spent about 2 hours with this lens outside, and I cannot get enough of it. I love that it communicates with the A7RII and photoshop, making photographing and editing smooth. Its very sharp and lightweight which is amazing for the long hikes and weird places I end up while photographing. I can't wait to continue to test this lens!
