I see that you're using this on a Sony. Has the VM version of the 21mm Nokton been optimized for Leica sensors, and therefore doesn't perform as well into the corners on a Sony as the native FE version?

Mike: Have you any comparisons with the CV 21mm f/1.8 Ultron?

Bill, I don't have any side-by-side comparisons but if you check this page of the 21mm f1.8 thread if you scroll down you'll see a lot of my images.

One thing of note is that I haven't been out with the new 21mm f1.4 on a sunny day and I think this lens will really shine when I get it out in the sun! 😀

Edit to add: Also, I sold my 21mm f1.8 sometime ago so I won't be doing any side-by-side comparisons in the future.

All the best,
Mike

At some point I'd still be curious to get your overall view on the two. I have the Ultron (6-bit coded as a 21mm Asph Summilux) and so far I like it better compared to the Leica Asph Elmarit-M and Zeiss Biogon f/2.8 ZM (not so much for its speed either).

Bill, I'd be curious why you like your 21mm Ultron better that the Zeiss Zm 21mm f2.8. What aspects in particular do you prefer (aside from speed). Thanks very much.

The Zeiss was pretty contrasty had a tendency to blow out highlights. I have not had that experience with the Ultron, which seems pretty well balanced overall. The Asph Elmarit was perfect on film, but it tended to have the same issue with blowing out highlights on digital.

Thanks ever so much for your response and useful info. I have one more question if you might have some preliminary thoughts. my question will be simplified to keep it basic. Say at a mid distance range to subject, with the Zeiss set to f2.8 (wide open)….how would it compare both centrally as well along the sides/edges of the frame to the new VC 21mm when tis used both wide open and at f2.8. Any info to some of this would be important to my potential use of the new VC 21mm. Thanks again Bill!
