Hi all,

I'm looking into buying a 35mm Voigtlander lens. I saw one relatively cheap, but the description says it's a type-C lens. What does this mean? Can it be used on a Leica M with an ltm to m adapter (which i already have)?

I know it might be a silly question, but it's the first itme i look into Voigtlander lenses.

Thank you!

If I am not mistaken, the C type lens is a Contax mount lens. I may be wrong on this but I beleive that the Contax mount is similar to the old Nikon rangefinder mount system and the two are interchangeable. Not to be confused with the Nikon F mount used today.

Here is a bunch of info and lenses, maybe this will help you determine if that is indeed what the lens you have your eye on is:

The C designation indicates that is a ContaX Rf lens (Voigtlander made a R2C - now scarce). It will work on a Nikon rangefinder, but there is a slight difference in the focussing helical so @ f2.5 you can get a minor focus shift. No problem if you stop down to f4 and beyond. I assume it is a f2.5 - don't think they made any other 35 version for it.
Some adapters ( and you need a Amadeus or similar adapter for it) work better than others with these lenses - so if you have a chance to try it out first, I recommend that.
You are better off just getting one of the screwmount 35f2.5 Voiglander lenses or the M-mount one. Probably cheaper than trying to source a proper adapter for the C mount.
All the Color Skopar 35f2.5 have the same optical formula - two different screwmount version, The "pancake" with a larger barrel, and the later more compact one and then the M-mount. Very good lens, by the way, - rivals the pre-asph Summicron 35f2.

Nice to have confirmation from someone who knows. My quick research was right. :D

OP - It's worth noting that there is also a Voigtlander CS lens in another mount format for the Bessamatic. I made the mistake of buying what I thought was a cheap steal of a deal on a 35mm CS lens and it turns out out was for a camera I don't own. :D

I assume you did the right thing and bought a Bessamatic?

Bessamatics are interesting early SLRs (built-in leaf shutter). Current prices are reasonable: Pacific Rim lists one for $75. I had one with the 3-lens kit, great lenses if they're in good shape.

It's on my list, honestly. But I have the lens already and most of them seem to come with this lens. I was hoping to find one with a 50mm lens instead so I have options.

This thread of course makes me remember I do not own a Contax mount camera of any kind. And thus, I need one of those too.
