Voigtlander VC Meter II?

Hi,
I currently using it with my Leica CL that has a damaged internal light meter. It's a very nice and perfectly working combo. In addition you can use it with other cameras...

Andreas

Its a great little meter - on the street, I often stick in on my M7, which obviously has a perfectly fine internal meter, so that I can check the light without raising the camera to my eye.

Concerning the Voigtländer VC Meter II I have an additional question.
How is the exact handling. In the manual at the Voigtländer homepage I can´t find any hind.
If you compare it with an old Leicameter. The Leicameter MR-4 is coupled with the time wheel of the camera. You focus your camera and push a button on the Leicameter for 1-2 seconds. During focusing and pressing the button the Leicameter measures the EV and memorises it (the needle of the Leicameter is freezing on a scale with different EVs). Because of the time-coupling you can read the corresponded f-stop directly, or change time and stop .
How do you handle it exact with the VCII. (not coupled, LED). Does the VC II fix the measured EV?

There is no coupling with the camera (other than the shoe). Your aim and push the button on the meter. That freezes the reading for maybe 10-15 seconds. You then manipulate the shutter speed and aperture dial on the top of the meter until a center green LED lights. There are over- and under- exposure (red) LEDs on either side of the green one.

You can also use it as a tiny hand-held meter.

I usually keep mine atop my M2, but sometimes carry it in a pocket and use it as a hand-held. I've been quite pleased in the year and a half or so I've owned one. I'd like to figure out a strap to carry it around my neck.

Take a metal paperclip and twist it around the shoe mounting. Then tie some string around that and voila!

That's a good idea...I used to flip the shoe mount around so that it would sit over the edge of the meter, and run a string through the resulting open screw hole. Pretty solid, but sort of an ordeal.

Every time you take a reading you have to make sure the asa setting didn't change. Very annoying.

🙂 I noted this annoyance when I first got the meter.

You can overcome this though - if you unscrew that dial you can add a thin washer which adds more resistance. I posted the instructions and a diagram of the bits and bobs a while back.

You just need some small pliers and 10 minutes of your time.

Kully and Steve, thanks for the suggestion. I'd really like to figure something out that would allow me to easily mount it on the camera or round the neck. 🙄 If I'm getting your suggestion Steve, you flipped the mount around so that only one screw was holding it in place?

That's it. A letter to VC!. We want a friction washer to fix the asa problem and a mounted eyelet for lanyard attachment! I'll bet we're describing the VC III. Wonder if the manufacturers read these forums? I would.

I drilled a small hole in the base(about 1/8th inch). I bought a cheap lanyard at a sporting goods store in the fishing section, or for a referee's whistle,.and a fishing swivel type clip. Voila!, a cheap fix to hang around my neck-I don't even bother mounting it on the camera any more(M3), as it is hanging around my neck. The slippery ASA dial is a problem, so I will now try the washer trick.
Thanks, Mike

Roger, VC makes a neck lanyard for the meter but from what I remember it is quite pricey. Stu

I think Frank has one of those. Yeah, I meant to say that I just turn the mount around, I ferget if then there's one or two screws holding it on. Anyhow, my vcii is broke, I need a new one.

I prefer the Sekonic L-208. Is less robust but allow both the reflected and incident light metering: also, i can mount the L-208 on the accessory shoe of my Leica M2, with the proper accessory, supplied with the meter. However, i think that the VC-II is a very good and reliable hand held meter.
Ciao.
Vincenzo
