There was a W/NW NYC thread here a moment ago - I don't know where it could have gone. I guess the original thread starter might have deleted it. It must have been an accident.
NYC is my kinda place, I gotta tell ya. I go there as often as I can; my wife is from there, she spent many years living in Queens and also Hell's Kitchen - she's a Fordham graduate. A few years ago, I was privileged to attend my wife's uncle's retirement ceremony at the Waldorf. Former Mayor Ed Koch was kind enough to pose with me while my wife took the photo.
Well, I could go on and on - I have hundreds of photos of NYC that I've taken over the years. And I will be happy to, unless I've made my point. And this thread won't be deleted, at least not by me, so please feel free to add your own photos and comments.
NYC - my kind of town, ya know? Great place.
Best Regards,
Bill Mattocks
PS - Correction, I found out where the original thread went. Darn. Well, better make sure that this one doesn't end up suffering the same fate. So just for future reference:

I deleted W/NW: New York City
Sorry.
My idea of W/NW is for it to be a place to post pictures. Few if any words needed.
Not a place for nostalgia reminisences nor diatribes.
If someone wants to start a new one fine. Maybe that one won't get hijacked.

I remember the police officer. One serious woman.

I just married well, is all. My wife's family is/was 'connected' in NYC politics, so when her uncle (Catholic Priest) retired, it was quite the affair. Met Hizzoner (who is a really nice guy and much taller than I thought he'd be), Helen Gurly Brown (?!?) and a few other notables. Uncle Joe was President of Fordham for many years as well as Chairman of the NYC Campaign Finance Board (http://www.nyccfb.info/) from 1988 to 2003, so he had close contact with many politicians.
It was the first and so far only time in my life I've put on a tuxedo. It was...entertaining.

One series of New York I have been working on for the past 3 years - http://www.pbase.com/keithbg/building_tops&page=all, and another series I am working on of Broadway - http://www.pbase.com/keithbg/broadway&page=all. Broadway originated as an Indian trail, the Wickquasgeck Trail, that ran the length of Manhattan island. The Dutch turned it into the main road through New Amsterdam.

"Even old New York was once New Amsterdam Why they changed it I can't say People just liked it better that way. So take me back to Constantinople ..."

The name changed when the Brits took New York from the Dutch. Though I haven't seen it in awhile, there was beer availbale for a number of years called "New Amsterdam". Was pretty good too.

I was reading a sad piece today on how NYC has changed since COVID, suggesting it may be a long time (late 2021 or perhaps never) before the city gets back to its thriving, buzzing 24/7 self... so I went looking for a W/NW thread on NYC and was surprised to see this thread dormant for so long.
If you have some NYC pictures (lots of you do) how about reviving this thread, with both pre- and post-COVID pictures?
