Reflection of Michigan Avenue

When did you take that one, Dale?

The last time I was there (last October) they were busy polishing the seams that showed after they first unvelied it. I'll be there again in a couple weeks and your shot looks like they have finished most of the work on it.

DMR,

That picture was taken in May, 2006. I had not seen the sculpture before so I can't comment on it being completely finished or how it looks by comparison to October, 05. My understanding is that it's not complete and that they are still working to completely remove the seams.

Thanks, Dale. 🙂

It also looks like you did a good job of getting yourself and most of the other passers by out of the reflection. 🙂 I did finally notice that it appears there's some work going on right behind The Bean, from your perspective.

If this link still works, here's a shot of the way it looked in October 2004 with the seams showing ...

Getting the people out of the shot was the easy part...I went early in the morning before anyone was there. However, I did want to have one person in the shot just to show the scale of the sculpture. I got lucky that there happened to be just one person there. However, it would have been better if he had been looking at the sculpture.

Nothing like that. I thought this was a "No words" thread?😀

I'll try to be brief.

October, 1997 my wife and I visited the Canadian Rockies. We ended the trip at Emerald Lake Lodge. The photo was a "grab" shot after dinner one evening. Nearly dark. The scene was typical of the weather for our entire visit. I'm guessing that was probably the best view of the mountains and lake we had all week.

Fast forward. March, 2006. My interest in photography in general & my rangefinder equipment in particular is rekindled. Moving into our new house I discover that my dad's 1950 Konica and my 1960 Canon VI-T both have film in them. Hmmmm...I finished the roll in the Canon using my LTM lenses and had both rolls processed & scanned. That's when I discovered the long forgotten exposures on the trip in 1997. The Reflections thread fit that photo well enough.

I wish I knew how to overcome the gloom and blue under those conditions. Everything I shot that week is dreadful. So much for brief. Thanks for asking. Brings back fond memories if not the best photographs.

Thanks for sharing. Nice story. I like the darkness and subtleness of the photo. Kinda adds to the mystery. For my taste anyway.
