as much as I tried to stop myself, my willpower is no match for a good deal.. I was idly (yeah right) watching an auction for a Contax IIa with a Sonnar 50/1.5.. I was astonished as the very reasonable price wasn't increasing in the final minutes.. so I threw in a quick bid, expecting to see my low-ball price get buried in the last minute, or the previous bidder's proxy jump past mine

no other bids showed up and the other bidder had already maxed out.. I got the camera for $2 above the previous bid.. so now I have a Contax IIa on its way to join my 2 Kievs

the irony is that just this afternoon I finally got my Jupiter 3 from the Ukraine.. it never ends, does it

congrats and i just need to tell you how jealous i am.

i refuse to start buying/using contax cameras cause i don't think it would ever end.
i'm too weak.

With a Contax IIa, is it the "Zeiss-Opton" lens? That is a great lens, not too harsh. The Canon 50mm F1.5 is closer to it than is the Nikkor F1.4. The Contax shutter is impressive with its "snip". Oozes Precision.

I was looking at a Contax IIa the other day... pretty... but the rangefinder was way out, and there was a Canon P sitting next to it 😉

Lovely cameras they are though, and so solid! I'm still being tempted! Someone help me!

yep, it's the Zeiss-Opton lens.. that was the main reason I bid on the auction.. as it worked out, I figure I bought the lens and got what looks like a mint Contax for an extra $100

William, I'll keep you in mind if I decide to let the Jupiter find a new home.. I put it on my FED, but so far I haven't even put a roll of film into that camera yet.. the J3 looks like it should be a very nice lens, tho

so I'm celebrating with a glass of pinot noir and dipping pretzels in some cranberry mustard that's nearly as addictive as cameras (I got the mustard at Brennans, William)
