An overall heavy duty case, not for the military, I doubt that it would have been very practical for them to use, I just had one in my hands today and it was a kool gadget, but kinda heavy and bulky for use, not anything the military would use at all
Military issue Leica`s got used in all types of weather, that why the used one`s have the patina they do, buying a special case cost too much money and that`s why these things are uncommon at best, because they didn`t sell well in the first place

Back when Rollei and Leica were at the top of the food chain, they offered every accessory imaginable to include a very robust, metal tropical case.
By the looks of it, this one did not see much use. I find it amusing that the seller is offering it today for more than twice the price of pristine Leica IIIc or IIIf.
