I know this has probably been asked many times in some form but at the moment. I'm looking at putting up a simple portfolio-esque website where I can display various slideshows of my projects and contact info/bio. I'm not completely void of internet knowledge but I'm no programmer so writing page after page of scripts and the like is out of the question.

I'm looking for something along the lines of www.victorjblue.com or jessemarlow.com.au.

My problem is I have no clue where to get started off...and, though I would love to use livebooks, my budget isn't in the thousands as some.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The Victor Blue site appears to be written in basic HTML, with styles defined on the pages and a bit of Javascript thrown in. You could do the same thing after a morning's study and with a basic HTML editor.

I also advise clients in your situation to get a copy of Adobe's Contribute 4.0. Contribute is a very easy to use and inexpensive tool for maintaining web sites that also does versioning. You can also easily create new sites in Contribute. I think it costs $150.

You may want to take a look at the PhotoStack script. Can incorporate it on your website to manage the photographs. It is customisable and it is free (GPL).

As for the other standard sections, I'm assuming that you already know how to have them.

I used Apple's iweb for my site, it's really easy to use and I'm happy with the result. At first it looks too basic but you can customize many things without programming knowledge.
