I was shooting an event indoors this morning and noticed this weird striping on images in the first part of the shoot. It was not present on images taken during the second half of the shoot. The only difference was that I changed batteries from a cheep after market BLN-1 to the Olympus BLN-1 battery that came with my E-M5. The cheap battery craps out much sooner than Olympus battery - could this have had something to do with the striping?

Maybe.

It's odd that the stripes are somewhat curving, as that kind of banding would normally be perfectly straight... but then it might be a result of the camera applying lens distortion correction.

I can't say about your camera specifically, but I do have experience with a camera where power management problems were likely responsible for similar, but much fainter banding.

Probably unrelated, but I've gotten odd horizontal banding/striping a bit different from this when I shot with a camera that used an electronic (non mechanical) shutter. It was due to the on/off cycle of the artificial light illuminating the scene likely conflicting with the way in which the image was read off the sensor.

Might be worth testing this again in a more controlled and non-critical setting, perhaps both inside and outside with both batteries.
