I'm considering the purchase of a Nikon Coolscan 9000 and wonder if there are different versions, or if there were any upgrades during the production life of this model.
I want to get the latest/best version I can.
Also, what aftermarket software is recommended?

D'oh!
I'm not aware of different versions. As for software, I'm running Niko Scan under Win 7 64 without issues.

I am aware of no changes over the life cycle to be concerned with, but you may want to get a glass MF holder if you are going to scan 120.
I also use NikonScan - a lot of people suggest VueScan, but the interface is just so wacky I couldn't stand it, plus I got better results form NikonScan

Agree with Bob about hardware. I've run Nikon Scan with Mac OS 10.6.8, but I doubt it works with the newest OS. I've put off upgrading until things settle down, created an early version of 10.6 on external drive, so I can later boot from that if I need/want to use Nikon Scan. Of course, Silverfast and Vuescan both run under current software OS.

I have never been able to get the 9000 to work reliably using the nikon SW on leopard or snow leopard. I ended up using the 9000 with vuescan an instead. What is your trick?

I am with you guys, Nikon Scan for me, even though I use it for my old Nikon Coolscan IV. BTW, I'm using Windows 7 32b
