Strange anomaly on a few of my images (5 total from the roll of 36). It seemed to only show after changing lenses, key word 'seemed'. At first I thought it was from my Jupiter-12 lens maybe pressing on the shutter curtain but after looking at the back of the lens through an open shutter (B) with the door open, the rear element is no where near touching the curtains or any other part of the camera.
I was also trying a new (to me) Canon 135mm 1:3.5 and a 50mm 1:1.8. The anomaly IS showing only after changing lenses (it never showed on images other than after changing lenses),
It seems to be along the edges only but not right along the edge but rather in a bit.
I have tested the shutter for capping at all speeds. it's fine although It does sound a bit loud and slappy compared to my leica but I have done a few rolls with no problems as I never changed the lens during those rolls.

I suspect it's caused by the light traps on the long side of the shutter. I have seen this in Leica M cameras and I suspect others can act this way also. Joe

I have had a similar effect happen when shooting into the sun, it seems to me to be from flare reflecting off of the inside of the shutter box, with the edge of the film gate providing "shade" along the bottom edge of the negative. I've never gotten it on both edges though.
Does the "flare" extend outside of the image on the negatives?

only the second shot was facing the sun. I had a very many successful shots facing total sun with no lens shade and no flare...

Methinks you're just going to have to be more careful when changing lenses then. Do it only in the shade, and facing away from any light source. Have the second lens in hand to place over the mount as soon as the first lens comes off.

Methinks you're right Phil... I can't believe I got that new S-42 and didn't even use it. Luckily It really didn't matter and the 50mm lens renders perfectly and tack sharp too. On that last image above, that isn't flair in the middle, that is mist from the crashing waves, that is exactly how it looked to the human eye.
