I am on the lookout for a Zuiko 50mm 1.4 and from what i've read the ones with serial #s greater than 1,100,000 performed the best. What are the going prices for it and from your experience are they worth the price (say compared to one thats in the 1,000,000 range)?

Thanks

The going price? That's a moving target. I'd check B&H, Adorama and KEH. I usually buy used stuff from the RFF classifieds or from KEH. I got my >1,100,000 50/1.4 last Fall. After looking for a while without success, I called KEH and got one in EX shape with caps for about $80. I think they've gone up a bit since then, but not much.

Good luck! I think you'll really like it. It's what I shoot with 75% of the time now.

Don't be afraid to buy the earlier serial number ... it's a very good lens and only a highly critical eye will notice a difference between it and the later version. The later lens is marginally sharper wide open and has a little more contrast from what I've seen.

I picked up the earlier version for $75.00 on eBay a while ago and I'm completely satisfied with it and would not pay the extra premium for the later type. Some of my best 50mm black and white images have come from it!

Nice shots Keith! And you're absolutely right - I don't think the difference between the two would be discernible. It's the eye behind the lens that makes the difference.

These images are very impressive, I love the look of them. Also, thanks guys for the info, I will continue my hunt for one of the later 50mm 1.4s.
