How do I test the framing lines? Should I photograph the edge of a wall in order to see if the photograph is not lined up with the edges?

Larry,
This is what I did. Take a picture hanging on a wall and put a level on it. Now level the picture frame. Once level take two shots. One hand holding where the frame lines are lines up with the edges of the picture frame and another with the camera on a tripod and a bubble level in the hot shoe. Try to get one of the picture frames in the picture area. Now look at them in photoshop and draw a straight horizontal line along the picture frame. If it aligns up then the frames lines are good to go. If they do not try rotating the canvas by .5 degrees untill they are lined up. The amount of correction is the amount it is off by. Do this also for the shoot with the bubble level on the camera. The latter test is to see if the sensor is square with the camera body.
Good luck,
Chris

Thanks for the advice. Believe it or not, I don't actually have any framed pictures on the walls. I'm sure that sounds strange. ;-) I guess I get I get tired of seeing the same framed pictures on the walls. I do have a nice display on my Mac which I use to display photos.

I have a laser level so I'll use that to find a level surface like a window ledge or bookcase, or something. The laser level is very accurate.

I'll post some test pictures later to show my results...
