This was shot with my Nikon SP with 50mm f1.4 Millenium with hood attached. This only appears on one frame. Flare? I can't figure it out.
It looks like a fence post in the foreground with light reflecting from it.

That looks an awful lot like a spiked fence rod to me.

It's the strap in the photo.

Nope, it's not a strap. That was around my neck and behind the camera. I will keep an eye out for it happening again.

I suspect Brian and rya are correct. How big is the hood for that lens? Were you standing close to a wrought iron fence while taking this photo? Are you by chance a left eyed photographer? I'm a left eyed shooter and so the camera body obstructs my vision in my right eye. A lens with a large hood on it can also block what I might have other wise seen through the VF.

I go with rya because of the bulbous bottom. Spiky pointy thing on the top of fence poles for photographers to impale themselves on!
On the other hand it could be a clue for the next in the series of National Treasures films!
