What should I pay for a Leica M7 "new"?

I have the opportunity to get an Leica M7 ala carte Black Vulcanite with MP Viewfinder .85. It has never been used. Comes with full passport warranty. From an ala carte Leica dealer. It was sold then returned 50 days later. At $2050 does it seem like a good deal? I am thinking yes. They are holding it for me for a few days.

Sounds like a bargain to me. What are the 'funny' à la carte options? If they're not repulsive, and if you'd rather have an M7 than an MP, go for it.

Completely black on top plate, no red dot or Leica insignia on front. Very stealthy. Vulcanite cover. MP VF at .85. BTW I can pick up a new CV 35/1.2 also. How does a 35mm work focus wise with the .85 VF? I tried it, it seemed fine. All things equal (but they never are) I would prefer the MP but such a deal...

NICE!

Never tried 35 with .85 but the focus ain't the issue -- it'll be better than a .72. Framing might be a tiny bit tight (35 against the edge of the finder) but it should be fine; you can soon see by looking. Vulcanite is neither here nor there in my book.

Quite honestly, if I weren't seriously wondering how to pay for a 24 Summilux, I'd say, "If you don't want it, let me know..."

More and more: at that price, go for it.

Thanks Roger, yes it is not the focus, it is the framing which wasn't really a problem for me even with CV's 35/1.2.

I do wear glasses and the 35mm frames are easy to see, much easier than the 40mm on the Bessa R3M.

$2050 is a great deal for an M7 with a warranty. i bought a beater M7 from Robert J for $1600 and just sent it in for the MP optic upgrade. after shipping and the upgrade, i'll have paid $2k for this one.
on the up side, they're upgrading the DX reader for free even though i'm the third(at least) owner.

If you'd prefer the M7 to the MP, then go configure the M7 with the ala carte website and see how much it would really cost you if you bought it new.

I'll be the dissenting voice. I would not buy a camera that is my second choice just because I found a deal on it. And it is a good deal BTW... 🙂
