Just watched Arakimentari + Manufactured Landscapes and was wondering what movie(s) would you reommend watching - english and/or in japanese.

One of my all time favourite movies "The Winter Guest" starring Emma Thompson and directed by Alan Rickman. Its not a documentary and many people I've recommended it to find it a real sleeper, but the cinematograhpy is nothing short of gorgeous. Large portions of the movie could easily stand on their own as still photographs, and I'm not even a huge fan of color photography.

The Wonderful World of Albert Kahn (BBC) ~ 11 hours of priceless memories!
The Genius of Photography (BBC) 6 pts

If you have even a tertiary interest in space exploration, the Apollo missions or human endeavor of any kind, see "For All Mankind" asap. The cinematography is remarkable - and entirely shot by NASA & astronauts.

The documentary "Restrepo" by journalist Sebastian Jung & Tim Hetherington and/or the book "War" by Sebastian Junger on the same topic.
